Off-Campus Housing
Because Midd is a small liberal arts school, housing is provided on campus for all students. Maybe a couple dozen students live off campus in the town of Middlebury proper, but because the town is so small, students are generally already aware of what off-campus options are available. The apartments are easy to find, though limited in number, generally at least $700 for a two-bedroom apartment, and always within a few minutes' walk of campus.

On-Campus Housing
The first year, students have no say as to where they live. Freshman dorms are about what you would expect--even Battel, considered the worst dorm on campus, is usually much-loved, defensively, by its residents, who bond. The second year, you have to house within your commons, of which there are five. And here, your commons really affects your living situation: in Atwater, you are guaranteed a single, whereas in a couple others you could get a suite, whereas with others, many people end up in doubles.
Upperclassmen housing can be choice, as suites are the most common type of housing. Atwater and LaForce are coveted.
I highly recommend living in one of the language or special interest houses, as the communities built there and the facilities available are consistently great. I lived in the cultural diversity house, PALANA, my junior year, and it was by far my best housing experience.

Most People Aren't Thrilled, Yet Still Find Something to Do...
Over my four years at Midd, I would argue that the nightlife had its ups and downs, and ultimately ended on a down note during my senior year. Yeah, the social houses and the athletes make an effort to liven things up by throwing huge parties, but those get busted by Public Safety, or are too big and sloppy to be enjoyable. The town of Middlebury is too small to have a hopping nightlife, though Bar Night at Two Bros and the classy lounge atmosphere of 51 Main can keep students going into town at night.
Honestly, Midd's nightlife scene would be preferred by people who are satisfied to throw their own smaller parties (50 people or less).
