Academics at University of Tennessee

A-

Typical

I noticed nothing special after my first semester as far as professors and curriculum goes. It definitely depends on the professor. Definitely check on Facebook or ratemyprofessor for ideas on the strictness and availability of professors. The online registration system is pretty easy to use, but I've had trouble figuring out if classes are full or not. Campus is small enough to walk to class, but a lot of my friends ride the bus and like it, especially when it rains.

Hodges is a great area to study, but there's also the amphitheater, or off campus options like Panera or Starbucks.

I found my first semester's workload to be tolerable. More than high school, but I was able to keep a job and social life along with class work. I managed A's and B's with little stress. But I think it depends on your major.

Scholarships at University of Tennessee

C

Careful! BIG ORANGE SCREW

I received scholarships and aid at the beginning of the semester and then a week before the semester ended, I started getting fined because I failed to complete a survey/quiz in order for my loans to go through. The University didn't send me a warning or anything, and I had no idea until they put a hold on my account and I couldn't sign up for classes. My accounts seemed fine for weeks, and I had no idea there was a problem until I saw a huge fine come out of nowhere.

Make sure you check MyUTK often, because Financial Aid/Bursar doesn't tell you squat. You're basically on your own. Be prepared to make that long trek to their office to ask them millions of questions.
