Computers at Lafayette College

A

Lafayette Likes Laptops

The school has plenty of computers for student use; there's always somewhere open. Printing is free, and one of the dorms has a 24-hour printing lab, not to mention the library (which is open for most of the hours anyone would WANT to print during). The campus is supposedly completely wireless, but, speaking as someone with a smartphone, I wouldn't say that it's perfect yet. Sometimes the internet can get really slow. It doesn't happen too often, but when it does, it's irritating. Most students have their own laptops though, I don't think I know of anyone who ONLY uses library computers... Most of the time those computers are just used by students who don't want to carry their computers around with them. It should be feasible to survive on the library computers, but I sure wouldn't want to!

Nightlife at Lafayette College

A

Whatever You Want, We've Got It.

Frat parties happen, but generally it's the sports houses that are the places to be on weekends. There are options if you don't drink (the school has its own interpretation of a nightclub down in Easton), but there is definitely a presence of alcohol on weekends. Lots of students have parties in their rooms, especially once they get into dorms with suites. If you want something a little more stereo-typical college though, think Animal House, it's there, and you don't have to look too hard for it.

Overall Experience at Lafayette College

A+

Live. Love. Lafayette.

Lafayette was the best choice for me. I'm one of the few of my friends who has no complaints during breaks (aside from how much I want to go back). I work hard, but I wouldn't feel like I was in college if I wasn't working. I have two jobs and it was easy to get them, and balance them in with my classwork and extracurricular activities. I don't sleep much, but, I'm in college, sleeping just isn't a part of the package. There are parties when I want them, but no one judges me if I want a sober weekend. We have a balance between drinking and just hanging out; I feel like we're a little more mature than other colleges who just go crazy all of the time... as a college, we only go truly wild three times a year, for Homecoming, Laf v. Lehigh and once right around Finals week spring semester.

Local Atmosphere at Lafayette College

B+

Easton Loves Lafayette

Lafayette's community service organizations do a LOT of work in Easton. We're perched on the top of the hill overlooking Easton, and students do occasionally go down there. It's a decent city, though I wouldn't want to be there alone after dark.

Campus Strictness at Lafayette College

A

It's Fair.

There are rules about drinking, which makes sense considering most of us are underage and therefore it's illegal. The college is pretty reasonable about 'looking the other way' though. If you don't make a fuss, I mean, if you're not belligerent and/or loud, you'll probably be okay. Plus the school has a great policy about issues involving alcohol. If someone drinks way too much, and needs medical attention, or you think they do, you can call Public Safety and make a "Good Samaritan" report. No one gets in trouble for drinking and the kid will get the help he needs. It's not used often, for the most part kids are smart about what they drink and how much of it.
