Brandeis is my first choice, but unfortunately is a medium reach. How can a slightly above average student maximize his/her chances of being accepted here? I am definitely applying ED.

Do the optional essay on the Brandeis supplement and try to stand out. Probably the best thing you can do is write a really unique essay. When I visited they really emphasized the essay and how some of their favorites have been really out of the box. I got accepted to the spring term with an 1880 SAT and 3.8W GPA and I think my essay played a very large role in that.

Great suggestion, I will do that. Thank you very much for the response!

No problem, good luck!

Brandeis was also my reach school, and I ended up getting in to the spring semester as well. My suggestion is to show them that you really want to go to their school. A big part of Brandeis is the idea of social justice. When filling out the application show them how you would fit into a community with those kind of ideals.

I got in and I'm in the 30th percentile, so I didn't have a really good chance of getting in. I heavily agree with ny227 it's about the ESSAYSSS. Make them good, make them YOU. That's seriously the only thing I can think of that got me in

Thank you all, your stories and suggestions inspire me to believe in myself and not give up.

Good luck! I have just been accepted with a full ride. My test scores were horrible, only a 22 on the ACT, a 3.8 GPA but my two essays were great! Also, I stood out to the dean of the school. Just do something that makes you stand out!

Wow, thanks for replying, that's excellent! Congratulations!!:)

Wow! COngratulations! What were the essays about? What did they ask you to write about?

Is Trinity's general biology major any good?

I don't know two much, although I have some friends majoring in bio. I might recommend you check out two of our freshman programs - the Genomics Research program and the ISP (Interdisciplinary Science Program). Perhaps just Google them or check out trincoll.edu . These progarms allow students interested in biology and other sciences to get hands on experience early on. Students who are invited into ISP can do research as early as the summer after their freshman year.

Thank you very much, I will do that.
