Big
Lots of people want to be econ majors, so it's a big department. They know how to get you ready for whatever career/grad school path you want to take. However, I've also heard that it's a big department with big classes so not always ideal, especially since smaller classes where you get to know your professors really well do exist at Duke. I haven't loved my intro classes so far, but I heard no one really likes the intro classes that much anyway. I'm excited about the electives, however.

I Like to Eat...A Lot
Off East Campus (within walking distance) is Ninth Street and Brightleaf Square with many really good restaurants. Definitely check it out. You can also drive to Southpoint Mall where there is a Cheesecake Factory. A local place called Local Yogurt also has good froyo.

Diversity...Sorta
Students have a pretty laid back approach as to what to wear during the day, but will dress up to go out at night. Longchamp purses, rainbows, vineyard vines, and Duke Tshirts can be seen everyday. The party scene is pretty large and sometimes overwhelming- it feels like everyone is going partying on West Campus and fliers advertising these parties and beer cans are everywhere. It's easy to get in a party, but there are also other things to do, although sometimes not as noticeable. Free movies, sports games, going out clubbing or just having a nice dinner are also common. Most social events probably depend on the organization you're in- varying from being involved in greek life to music to religious life to any other interest you may have.
