Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Computers are just a part of everyday modernism that has spilled over into college life. VU is no exception to this rule. Each dorm room has a space for two desktop computers to be plugged into the network. The majority of students bring lap tops that rely on wireless Internet, though. Not that you need to bring a computer to survive on this campus, but most students bring their own simply because it is more convenient.

There are plenty of computers and computer labs on campus, considering that each dorm maintains a lab of its own. You won’t find any problems getting a computer, except of course during finals week when everyone on campus is working on finals projects and papers. The only downside to the individual labs in the dorms is that the computers are usually about two to three years older than the one sitting on the desk in your room. Some of them are in desperate need of updates, but the new ones in the library and Union are great to use.

Exceelent Computer Locations

We have numerous labs, both in the library and the Union (the place where the cafteria and other student-related places are located). In addition, there are computers and projectors throughout all the classrooms. The Wi-fi is excellent, and I've never had a problem connecting on to it. For in-class work, you don't really need a personal computer, but it's nice to do your essays and papers on your own laptop.

Plenty of Resources

There are computer labs or computers available in every building, even dorms. There is usually always enough ink and paper available, and labs only get crowded when term papers are due.

Labs Are Good

There are a lot of computer labs so finding a computer is never hard. The printers are out of paper a lot though.

Did You Know?

Like to waste paper? The infamous orientation story about what not to print includes the entire script for Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Try to avoid printing scripts for movies that you already know by heart.

If you are in the Union’s 24-hour computer lab after 2 a.m. when the Student Escort Service stops, you can call VUPD for a ride back to your dorm.

No more lines! Valpo has adopted online registration for classes so you don’t have to wait in the throngs of students at the Registrar’s Office—you don’t even have to be wearing pants when you register for classes.
