Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Valpo has been updating the campus over the last few years with some really nice renovations and new facilities, including the library, Union, and fitness center. The library is a great addition to campus. It brings a state-of-the-art facility to a campus that is trying to move forward and expand. The spacious atmosphere and floor-to-ceiling windows promotes a relaxed setting to study in. The Harre Union opened in January of 2009 and has a games and recreation center, meeting rooms, lounges, a 24-hour computer lab, and a ballroom that hosts numerous events. It has two different eating places: one that is available at meal times and another open later into the night. The facility has become a center for student life since many activities are held there on a weekly basis.

The ARC, while nice in size, is usually overrun with athletic teams and their practices. However, the recent addition of the fitness center offers a wide range of options for non-varsity athletes. It is state-of-the-art with a cardio area that has 25 machines, a weight training area, and an aerobics area. There are also fitness classes available. The facility is free for students and is open much longer than the old gym was. It makes exercising accessible for students so they can fight off the freshman fifteen with ease.

The VUCA (Center for the Arts) and Kallay-Christopher are also newer buildings serving academic purposes. Both are equipped with up-to-date classrooms and equipment. The VUCA also has a museum, theater, and recital hall that hosts many events and performances throughout the year.

VU Home Away from Home

The facilities at Valparaiso University are very unique. The facilites are very close to one another and help bring the closeness between the students and faculty. The faculty is very attentive to each and every student. The buildings are being renovated. This helps give more state of the art utilites in order for the students to receive a better education. It can be trusted that the education of each individual as well as the warmth that is felt being there, will not be taken for granted.

Good Acedemics and Dorms but Not Athlectics

I believe that the student union and the library and all the academic building are all very nice and new. The Athletic Department is complete deprived for one its small, the basketball court only hold about 4,000. the swimming pool dose not meet NCAA regulations, the track? o I forgot there is none, football stadium is smaller than most highschools. The only thing there are improving in is the dorms with the new Up Town East appartments, Guild/memorial, and warrenburg, but they need to get new freshman dorms.

Favorite Things To Do

Valpo has a wealth of activities and events to attend. The VUCA (Center for the Arts) is home to plays, concerts, recitals, and lectures, as well as the University's Brauer Museum of Art. The Brauer Museum is home to many modern American artworks, including pieces by Georgia O'Keefe. Recitals and concerts of various campus music ensembles and groups also take place in the Chapel of the Resurrection. Various lectures, debates, and the Christ College Symposium Series take place in the Mueller Hall Refectory. Lectures and films are conducted in the Neils Science Center auditorium. Poetry slams and book discussions, as well as small concerts, often pop up in the Café at the Union. In addition, departmental or special-interest lectures often take place in the academic buildings around campus, as well as in the Lumina Room of Huegli Hall. Athletic events take place at the ARC (Athletics Recreation Center), Brown Field (football field), the new softball diamond, Eastgate (soccer field), and the Emory Bauer Baseball Field.

Did You Know?

The cement structure outside of the Christopher Center Library actually breaks up enough sunlight so that the floor-to-ceiling windows do not cause increased aging of the books.
