Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Nightlife at Valpo mostly revolves around the house parties and frat parties that are held throughout the week. A limited number of students go to the bars on a regular basis, but once you reach that golden age of 21, you will go... at least once. There are not a lot of options for bars around Valpo, but they are frequently visited by some Valpo students. They are sometimes smokey and crowded, so most people drink at home or at house parties.

Frat parties, on the other hand, are held often for students at campus. The most popular are the non-alcoholic dance parties that many students attend. There's a small cover charge that goes towards a philanthropy. Otherwise, there are the typical small gatherings at frats or off-campus houses that entertain many Valpo students. Most of the frat parties are overrun with freshmen and Greeks. Few non-Greek or non-freshmen take the time to head to the frat houses for a party.

Limited but There

There are no clubs in this town but a few bars. I am turning 21 soon so I'll experience that firsthand soon, but I have heard there are some good ones. House parties are the way to go but they are not as common on Valpo's small campus like they might be at big state schools. Parties are there if you want them but its more apartment parties and dry dance parties are houses. I've always had a good time though.

Nightlife

there is not much night life other than at faternity parties. Valparaiso is a small town so not much goes on. There are a few bars around but otherwise you have to make your own fun.

What is the party scene like on campus?

What’s the best way to get to the popular nightlife spots?

Facts

Club Crawler

Valpo has its share of bars, but there are really no nightclubs in the area. If you want good nightlife in terms of techno or dancing, head to Chicago.

Organization Parties

Many campus groups throw the occasional party, but campus rules about alcohol make this tricky. VISA holds dance parties on a regular basis, but as far as off-campus parties are concerned, you’d most likely have to hit up the frats.

Bar ListingsWhat's This?

Northside Tap Bar & Grill

Northside is often referred to as the ‘townie bar,’ meaning that most of its patrons tend to be locals, but many VU students head to Northside because it has great prices. You must be 21 to get in, and the carding policy is pretty strict. Northside also has live music from time to time, and they do serve good bar food and appetizers. There is no cover and parking is free.

Pastimes

Probably the best bar food for miles! Pastimes is more like your average Irish pub than a bar. This is the choice for students who want to go out and drink with friends but also have some quality food and conversation. It’s quieter and more sophisticated than the other places.

Bin Willy’s

Bin Willy’s serves food, as well as being a local student bar. They host a DJ, as well as live bands on the weekends, and offer great specials.

Duffy’s Place

Duffy’s is not the first choice for students on a regular basis, but it has a large beer garden area open in the spring that is often used for Senior Week activities or welcome-back bashes.
