There are so many great restaurants within walking distance of campus in an area called Hillsboro Village and on West End. You can also take a car or cab to many other areas of Nashville with great food.

Vanderbilt is a lot more diverse than the stereotype it is given. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of diversity I found here. There is a lot of ethnic/racial diversity. Many people are on scholarships and financial aid leading to a more socioeconomic diversity. The school is pretty balanced between Republicans and Democrats. There is definitely religious diversity and acceptance. There is some diversity of sexual orientation and Vanderbilt definitely tries to promote acceptance of diverse sexual orientations. Overall, Vanderbilt has done a good job with their diversity, but there is still more they can work towards to improving it, which I believe they are doing.

The large majority of the Vandy student body is white upper-middle class. There is not a lot of variety among students, with preppy greeks being the norm. Variety and political beliefs and religion are widely accepted.

There is no separate application process to become an education major (just apply to Peabody College with your regular application). The biggest obstacle is that the education tracks are extremely intensive in terms of number of required classes, so if you switch into an education major after Freshman year it may be hard to finish the course work in 4 years.

Freshmen all live on the Commons in 10 different houses. The Commons are definitely the nicest dorms on campus and most of them are either new or newly renovated. Sophomores mainly live in Branscomb, which is loud and right across from Greek row. It is probably the least nice dorm on campus, but its not bad at all. Junior and Senior housing is nicer and transitions to apartment or suite style. In the next few years there will be a new set of dorms replacing Kissam, which they knowcked down last year.

As an elementary education major, there are practicum associated with many required major classes, averaging out to about one per semester until Senior year when you student teach. The practicum are like mini student teaching sessions where you are in a classroom for 3 hours a week, observing and teaching lessons in a specific subject area (social studies, math, science, reading, etc). The practicum are amazing experiences where you really get to experience teaching without the pressure of the intense student teaching experience.

Ther are very convenient Vandy Vans that run from 5pm tp 5am all around campus to provide safe transportation. The public bus system is free for students (so are the Vandy Vans) and there are routes that go near a Target, Walmart, and Goodwill.

Although the freshman dorms are "dry", many students go to other dorms to party. Weed and alchohol seem to be the two main drugs used. I find that drugs/achohol are very easy to avoid. It depends on who you hang out with. Even my friends who do more of that kind of thing are completely accepting when I say that I'm not interested. I also also know a number of people who don't drink or do drugs at all.

I recieved enough financial aid so that with a couple outside scholarships Vanderbilt is very affordable. The school doesn't offer very many opportunities for merit aid, but Vanderbilt had a large endowment so they can afford to offer good financial aid packages.

I don't know but you can call the Language department for guidance.

I answered this earlier. I am proud to be a doctoral student at Vanderbilt. The workload is flexible and the resources are the best. Vanderbilt Nursing is phasing out its bachelor program and offering bridge programs for those who want to aggressively pursue a Master level study. They offer a seamless transition from the Master to the DNP or the research arm of the PhD program.

I only know about the nursing programs. Vanderbilt has a passion for educating nurses at a high level of knowledge and clinical excellence. It has recognized the need for doctorate level studies to further develop the influence the nursing profession has at the health policy and patient advocacy level.
Our country is facing some difficult times and the doctor ally prepared nurse has much to offer for the quality of healthcare access and perhaps changing the way healthcare is delivered.
Vanderbilt has recognized the importance Health information Technology. Their systems are the best with the most superb technical gurus.

The Green Dot organization was established to provide safety for women threatened with physical and sexual abuse. It is centrally managed with outreach safe havens located through out the urban and suburban communities.

Vanderbilt has a reputation as of academic excellence. It surpasses many universities because of its rich resources in its libraries, research opportunities and commitment to health and welfare.

Nashville is a pretty popular place. There are plenty of things within walking distance, and then more choices within a 5minute bus or car ride. Price ranges all over the place from cheap fast food to top notch steak houses and such.

Health & Safety:
I feel pretty safe on campus. There are multiple emergency stations placed throughout the campus in case of an incident. Often times I see Campus Security stop through the libraries at night or driving around campus. They will walk/drive you to your location if it is after dark and you are alone.

There are a ton of great restaurants, many within walking distance of Vandy. The restaurants in Hillsborough Village especially are very convenient. People love Fido, a cafe that Taylor Swift frequents. If you have a car, there is amazing barbeque in downtown Nashville, and Loveless Cafe is a must.

Both Vanderbilt and Nashville nightlife are amazing. Because it's a residential campus, most of the parties happen on-campus, making them easy to hear about, easy to find, and easy to get to. Also, VUPD does not care at all about underage drinking, more about safety, so there's really no worries about partying as a freshman or sophomore. Frat row dominates the party scene on weekends, although many suites in Towers/Highland host parties on the weekends as well.
Nashville nightlife is also fantastic. There is always a ton of live music and dancing downtown at the strip (what else would you expect from Music City USA). There is also a huge variety in the types of bars and clubs to attend. Nashville as a city probably has the best nightlife of any city in the South, with the exception of New Orleans of course.

There are a number of impressive services offered by the school. The career center does an excellent job working with students, and the programming board works to plan a number of activities on campus. Because Vanderbilt is somewhat unique as a completely residential college, campus life is relatively centralized on-campus, which makes it very easy to find out what's going on and find something to do.

Parking is very expensive, but is to be expected in Nashville. Freshman can't have a car on campus, although it's easy enough to keep a car parked near campus on several streets with free parking if absolutely necessary. Having a car certainly isn't necessary, but is a great convenience. It's relatively easy to get a parking permit as a sophomore and above.

At first, you're just starstruck at everything. However, there isn't much to do in walking distance of vandy. You have to take a cab or bus to go to the mall, and it takes roughly 30 minutes by bus to get to a mall that is very close.

Health & Safety:
There are cops everywhere, but they also don't interfere with your daily routine. There are also these blue lit towers that allows you to call the cops if you want a walking escort late at night.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
