Computers Grades:
College Prowler Take
Aside from labs being too crowded during peak times of the school year, Vanderbilt students have no quips with the computer network. The connection is as fast as anyone could ask for, and the network is well integrated and extremely functional throughout the school year.
As computer fluency has progressed at universities, the ability to be wired and connected at all times has become central to the college student’s lifestyle. It would be feasible to be without a computer at Vanderbilt; it just wouldn’t be convenient, especially as Vandy continues to introduce new services over their network.

You would probably enjoy having your own computer—the network system is great here and really fast. The computer labs are never really crowded, but they are not open 24 hours, so you might want to keep that in mind if you do your work mainly at night. |

When there was a string of viruses going around campus, the ITS (Information Technology Services) office was really working around the clock to make sure student computers were safe, and I think they did a good job. |

All that bothers me is that they make you pay for printing. It’s on the honor system, so I feel bad defrauding it. But writing a paper is bad enough, I shouldn’t have to pay a tax to turn it in. |

The computer network is awesome. We have a super fast Internet connection that you will miss when you go home. Most people have their own computers in their rooms. The labs are a bit crowded sometimes, and the machines there are often messed up. It’s a good place to print, though. |

I would suggest bringing your own. Laptops are really convenient when you need to hide away to get papers done. I brought a desktop—I heard that it was smarter in a dorm since it couldn’t be stolen very easily. However, I’ve never heard of anyone having their laptop stolen or anything like that. |
