College Prowler Take
No one has ever disputed that Vanderbilt girls are not beautiful and talented, the only problem being that they all tend to go for the same look, which after a while, diminishes individuality. It seems like there is a definite burden on Vandy girls to live up to this high standard. Guys are, by comparison, not quite at the level of the girls, but they are in their own right pretty impressive. There is a greater variety on the types of guys, but still both men and women at Vanderbilt are not incredibly diverse. They are preppy, for the most part. Students Speak Out

Guys are kind of full of themselves for the most part. It is hard to find some people who are down to earth, but once you do, they will become the best friends ever. Girls are okay once they get older. I think they come in on way too high a horse either morally or egotistically. After they settle down, they are much better. |

I am, personally, a big fan of the South and the people here. From a male perspective, I am a big fan of the girls. Most of them are friendly and like to party. Most of the guys are good people, but there are the few of both guys and girls that will rub you the wrong way. There are all types of people so, if you are willing to get out and meet people, you will find plenty of friends. |

The frat guys are somewhat cute but sort of egotistical. Most guys aren’t Greek, and many are nice and cute. Vanderbilt girls are famous for the way they look. The girls are very aware of this, and there is a definite pressure to be thin and beautiful. Girls get addicted to working out. It’s important not to let others influence you. |

Social Scene
Regardless of whether it is Friday night or Tuesday morning, there will generally be something big happening on Vanderbilt's campus. In the rare event that the campus is dead, it is a near certainty that you will be able to find some large groups of Vandy students downtown.
Hookups or Relationships?
Hookups run the gamut for freshmen and sophomores, and relationships are most common for juniors and seniors, but there are are exceptions. Alcohol seems to play a large role in this. For the younger students who are spending a huge amount of their time living it up and drinking on multiple nights of the week, the hookup scene is huge. Seniors and juniors tend to be a little more relationship oriented, but there is still a lot of random "interaction."
With the advent of the Commons experience (every freshman living in the same area, or at least in very close proximity to one another), the hookup atmosphere seems to be a declining trend. Perhaps the student body is maturing, or maybe it just has something to do with the fact that the walk of shame is suddenly much more obvious. Despite this disparity between relationships and hookups, the dating scene at Vanderbilt is enormous. It seems that students have the uncanny ability to turn almost any occasion into a date function, whether it is a fraternity party, a Thursday night at a bar or club downtown, a football game, or simply dinner.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
As with many colleges, the Greek scene is a huge resource for the student looking to meet someone. For those students who aren’t into the Greek scene or aren’t a part of it, the bars and clubs downtown are also great for attracting a potential mate. Unfortunately, some people can’t get into the bars or clubs due to age restrictions, but there are a myriad of other venues or ways to pick up a guy or girl. From the dining facilities to the classroom, the student rec to Alumni Lawn, it seems to be the attitude of the student looking to find someone more than the place that they attempt to achieve that goal.
Dress Code
Vandy students are high-class and preppy, to say the least. J. Crew and Polo are very popular for both guys and girls, and Longchamp and Coach bags are in for girls. Vandy students waffle between two main fashion styles: the traditional prep style (Sperry shoes, guys in pastel button-downs and collared shirts and girls in skirts and flirty sundresses) and the trendier, designer style. Regardless of your fashion IQ coming in, you will be able to spot a fake Gucci bag and tell the difference between Seven for All Mankind and True Religion jeans in no time.
