Vanderbilt is very safe in that there isn’t a great deal of crime in spite of its urban location. However, many students feel that the community is more vulnerable to serious incidents than the often joked about string of indecent exposure offenses.
Truth be told, the main campus is very poorly lit. It would be a challenge for anyone to spot an emergency blue phone while standing at another one—they are too few and far between. This mixed with the general naiveté of the student body is troubling. With the establishment of the Commons on a more remote portion of campus, freshmen in particular are now more than ever prone to long walks alone at night. However, Vanderbilt and its police force are very well equipped to handle any problems—and the statistics back them up. But, it might make more sense and be beneficial if they’d spend more time patrolling the walkways and entrances of campus.

As Safe as Could Be...Inside
Vandy police do an incredible job and keep us feeling safe. Once you step out into nashville, though, you can get in some trouble

Health & Safety
There are definitely some parts of main campus that are less well-lit. However, I usually make a point to either take a Vandyvan back to my dorm or walk with friends, but I've never felt unsafe.
