College Prowler Take
Nashville is an insider’s town—if you know the ins and outs of the city, then there’s something to do every day and night. This is a lot of fun because knowing about the cool restaurants or the special nights at various clubs makes you feel like you’re privy to exciting information. The problem, of course, is finding everything to begin with. Making fun of Nashville and the local population is a fairly common trend for some Vanderbilt students. However, it is quite ironic that these critics can never be found in their rooms on a weekend night because they are out taking advantage of what the city has to offer. Whether it’s the fantastic music scene (and contrary to popular belief, no, it’s not just country), the Predators, the Titans, or the wonderful array of unique restaurants, there is something for everyone in Nashville. In the variety and depth of its offerings, Nashville feels like a much larger city than it actually is.

Nashville is not a hick town, as many people believe. I love it, and I have yet to listen to one country song since I have been here. I do plan on going line dancing once, though! Belmont University is close by, and many of those kids party at our frats on the weekends. |

The atmosphere in Nashville is exciting (albeit expensive!), sometimes a bit touristy, but always ‘happening.’ If you can find transportation, there is always stuff to do, however most students prefer to stay on campus more than out and about in the city. Thursday nights, we go downtown to bars where live music is a staple. |

All of downtown is great, and the area surrounding Vanderbilt is fun. As for stuff to visit, it’s the country music capital of the world, so I would visit the Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Fame, which are both incredible. There are some good malls that are fun; Green Hills is nearby. |

Nashville is a great emerging and developing town with many options. It’s a Southern town in Tennessee, but the people are very cosmopolitan with a hick here and there. Many times, you forget you are in Tennessee. There are great restaurants, bars, clubs, theater, and of course, amazing music—and only a part of it is country. |

I think that Nashville is a nice combination of the arts and Southern society. Though known primarily for country music, Nashville actually has a mixture of musical types, and this adds to the artsy element of the city. As for points of interest, I love Centennial Park, Tennessee Performing Arts Center, Buffalo Billiards, and movies at Green Hills Mall. |
