Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Nashville is an insider’s town—if you know the ins and outs of the city, then there’s something to do every day and night. This is a lot of fun because knowing about the cool restaurants or the special nights at various clubs makes you feel like you’re privy to exciting information. The problem, of course, is finding everything to begin with.

Making fun of Nashville and the local population is a fairly common trend for some Vanderbilt students. However, it is quite ironic that these critics can never be found in their rooms on a weekend night because they are out taking advantage of what the city has to offer. Whether it’s the fantastic music scene (and contrary to popular belief, no, it’s not just country), the Predators, the Titans, or the wonderful array of unique restaurants, there is something for everyone in Nashville. In the variety and depth of its offerings, Nashville feels like a much larger city than it actually is.

Relatively Fun Area

Vandy is on the city outskirts, so it has a very collegiate feel but is close to downtown Nashville. There are lots of restaurants and bars close by, but unless you're 21 or have a good fake it's hard to go out off campus since most places are 21 and up. There are a lot of parties on campus though, particularly at the frats.

Nashvegas

Coming from Chicago, I know what a big city is all about. Luckily, Nashville, although as not a renowned city as Chicago, it still has lots to offer. Between Broadway and Demombreun, there are plenty of bars to hit up.

Life Outside the Vander-Bubble

Nashville is a great and interesting city, and just nearby Vanderbilt exists a lot of great neighborhoods with cool shops, parks, restaurants and the like. However, many students manage their way through Vanderbilt never taking advantage of any of this. Particularly for the first two years or so, it is a real struggle to find anyone really exploring Nashville as they could - or setting foot off campus at all.
