College Prowler Take
Whenever I mention to someone that I go to school in Nashville, I receive the same “I’m sorry” look and then am asked if I like line dancing. These people’s assumptions could not be further from the truth. There is a huge amount going on in Nashville, and it isn’t very hard to get plugged into the scene because Vanderbilt students take full advantage of it. Thursday nights are packed as usual at the fraternity houses, and cab after cab can be found leaving campus taking students to the various clubs and bars Nashville has to offer. The only problem with the nightlife is that there isn’t a huge amount going on for the under-21 crowd. Every year, a “freshman club” will serve underage, but before long, they get shut down. As a result, a very large portion of the Vanderbilt student body has fake IDs. For the most part, the clubs in Nashville aren’t that strict. Age is really more or less a formality to them, since you’ll be dropping money into their pockets, regardless of how old you are.

It used to be easy for partiers of all ages to go downtown and have a good time, but the cops have really been cracking down on fake IDs and getting a lot of people in trouble. |

There’s a great downtown scene, and it’s not too far from campus. We always take cabs because parking is a problem. Downtown is most popular for Vandy students during the week. There are lots of places to choose from—country places, clubs, pool bars, and more. I really like the downtown atmosphere. |

Chili’s is the most amazing place ever. Their bar doesn’t have happy hour, they have ‘happy day.’ The restaurant is open from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and happy hour is from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. It’s a really great way to start the night (or day). |

There are tons of bars off campus. They’re mostly downtown, which is an $8 cab ride away. The ‘cool’ places change every year. My freshman year, the place to go was Lonnie’s, a beer joint with karaoke and lots of country. They had ‘Vandy night,’ and it was only Vandy students packed in like sardines, but it was great. |

Some good bars are Flying Saucer and Bailey’s. Although I don’t like country music, it is fun to occasionally hit up a small country bar like Lonnie’s for a change of pace. |
FactsClub Crawler
There are lots of different clubs in Nashville, ranging from places to go and dance—contemporary music or country—and those that are perfect to just sit, talk and relax at. Nashville is without many unique concept-clubs and doesn’t offer much if you’re really into the techno/house music scene.
Bar Prowler
The bars that students usually go to are either sports-bars, like Sam’s, or yuppie places, like Jackson’s, where the pre-professional Vandy crowd intermingles with the professional Nashville crowd.
