College Prowler Take
Because Vassar is a small school, dining options are limited. The ACDC offers a variety of options, especially for vegetarians and vegans. But students get bored of the food. The Retreat is preferred by students for the quality of its food and central location. Eating is a social event at Vassar. When you stand in crowded lines waiting for food, you catch up with old acquaintances or people from class. Students sit at large tables with tons of friends. You can walk into ACDC alone and always find someone to eat with. Also, the meal plan is all-you-can-eat. Students spend one meal to enter the dining hall, and you can eat as much as you want for as long as you want. Students also have a take-out option if they need to rush to class.

The Atrium makes smoothies, and the Kiosk sells good coffee (much better than the dining hall coffee). There’s only one dining hall, so sometimes, you feel rather limited in your eating options, but there’s usually a good variety, especially for someone who has special eating needs, such as a vegan. |

Food is pretty good. The dining hall gets monotonous, but they do try, and they’re constantly improving. Vegetarians and vegans are well catered to (though if you’re a vegan, you’ll have to get creative to avoid eating the same thing every meal), but those who keep Kosher are not. There are several spots on campus to get a quicker meal. It’s all totally edible, and some of it is really tasty. |

As a vegan, I never have a problem finding good food on campus. The main dining hall always has vegan pizza, veggie burgers, vegetable/hummus wraps, and an entire do-it-yourself vegan stir-fry station. Vegan brownies, cookies, and ice cream are also available. |

ACDC is relatively painless, as far as food consumption in the entire world goes (consider overnight camps, prisons, and homeless shelters), but you do get tired of the same old rotation of unidentifiable food-stuffs and vegetables served with cinnamon. |

Food is decent. A little redundant. Good enough choices for vegetarians and vegans, but students do get bored. We have ACDC, the main dining hall, which changes their menu fairly regularly, but I think I have eaten everything at the Retreat (our café) more than enough times. The café at the athletic facility is too far to walk to, and they are only open at weird times. |

Did You Know?At the vegan stir-fry station in ACDC, students can cook their own dishes from a variety of raw vegetables and spices. Vassar works on a point system, which allows students to only pay for what they eat, eat as many times in a day as desired, and take out food from the dining hall.
Students can use meal plan points to cater parties for themselves and friends.
Vassar composts! Students compost their food scraps in the Vassar’s Town Houses, Terrace Apartments, and the Retreat, and they are working towards doing so in ACDC. The Compost Committee hopes to decrease Vassar’s waste output and recycle organic materials into productive soil.
In Vassar’s “Farm to Vassar” program, campus dining has made arrangements with a local orchard, dairy farm, and local produce wholesaler to offer fresh products to students from the surrounding communities
