Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Vassar has very lenient drug and alcohol policies. Although the school is tolerant, it doesn’t condone reckless behavior. Vassar is more concerned with the safety of students than punishing them. This seems to be a positive policy because it allows students to feel comfortable calling paramedics or security when friends run into problems with substances. Students rarely get in trouble. Students are required to attend a drug and alcohol education class when they abuse substances to the point that they put their own health or the health of another at risk, or they got caught blatantly violating school policies. Basically, don’t vomit on the security guard’s boots, and you can expect to get off scot-free.

Parties in the dorms, though, are usually left alone as long as you’re not blasting your music so loud that your door is shaking, or you don’t try to squeeze 100 students in a room. Even in these circumstances, parties are just broken up, and only the owner of the room gets in trouble. Registered parties at senior housing are rarely meddled with by security. Only when repeat offenses occur are students at risk of losing housing. Officials are fair about drug and alcohol policies. Students feel that officials trust them, and they, in turn, trust officials.

Really Great

A+

You can pretty much get away with anything here, which provides a nice relaxing atmosphere for students. Students can get written up by security many times before they have any kind of consequences whatsoever. If you are drinking at some of the senior housing complexes there is zero chance of any kinds of consequences.

It's All Pretty Chill

I honestly don't know anyone who's gotten into real trouble for just being caught drinking; you have to try to get written up, either by doing drugs in the dorms or being a jerk to Security. They don't make rounds very frequently and even if you do get caught drinking, you usually just have to take AlcoholEdu or write a two-page paper or something.

Campus security is extremely...

Campus security is extremely loose, but they haven’t been given reason to step it up. They trust students, and the students keep that trust.
