College Prowler Take
Students flock to the library finding the perfect nook to curl up with a book or pulling over chairs to a table with friends. Its gothic stone architecture, large detailed windows, and high ceilings mimic the elegance and beauty of most other buildings on campus. While many maintain their original form, several renovations go above and beyond mere modernization. The Walker Athletic & Fitness Center is surrounded by the Vassar Golf course. For the dramatic, there are black-box theaters at the Powerhouse, Susan Stein Shiva, and the Center for Drama and Film, in addition to a large film screening room, film studio, and film editing suite. The student center and the ACDC provide breathtaking space to hold lectures, band performances, dances, or a place to lounge with friends and a cup of coffee. However, many buildings are in need of renovation, including many of the science facilities and some dorms. The McWhorter dorms are going to be torn down, as the architects no longer believe they are fit for students to live in. The older classrooms are smaller and don’t have the technological capacity the newer ones do. As class size expands, sometimes desks are crammed into the older classrooms to accommodate all the students.

The athletic facilities are huge and gorgeous, the buildings are historic looking and well-kept, and Building and Grounds spends a lot of time and money keeping up the arboretum and flower garden. Does Vassar spend too much money on its upkeep? Now that’s another question. |

The campus is unbelievable. I’m on the crew team and we have amazing boats and a to-die-for athletic center (complete with a smoothie bar)! Really, I could not ask for a more user-friendly and beautiful campus. |

The facilities are amazing. A sports center, the student center, theater, and new dorm have been opened in the past few years. There has been a problem though, with the new dorm lacking the character of the old dorms, which Vassar students love. We don’t want to live in hotels, which is the direction the administration is moving in. |

They’re great and are constantly being renovated and improved due to a seemingly bottomless donor fund. All the facilities are sickeningly clean and new looking, and there are computers everywhere. |

I like the facilities on campus....
I like the facilities on campus. The gym is well equipped and has very flexible hours, but the pool could use some improvement. There is a new student center, and the other student spaces are accommodating to almost all the activities that I’ve tried to plan these past few years. So in short, yes, they are nice. |
FactsWhat To Do on Campus
At Vassar, you’ll probably go mad even trying to stay on top of everything that’s happening on campus. If you aren’t grabbing a snack at the Retreat or hanging in your neighbor’s room, you can watch a student theater performance, see a band play, watch a film, listen to a faculty or guest lecture, take a free dance or yoga class, or just pick up a good book and read on the Quad.
Favorite Things To Do
Going to the Mug (even on Tuesday nights), attending all-campus parties, sledding on Sunset Hill, seeing a friend in a play, lounging on the Quad, making out, pigging out at the Eveready Diner, playing Ping-Pong or pool, and drinking at the Dutch on Thursday nights.
