College Prowler Take
Student parking at Vassar is relatively simple. All students, including freshmen, are permitted to have cars. All cars must be registered, but it is free. Students are prohibited from parking in the main part of campus on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., which causes much grumbling among students, especially in winter. Freshmen are not permitted to park on campus at any time, and have to park in the farthest lot. There is a large parking lot (South Lot) on the edge of campus with ample spots in which upperclassmen can park. Although students complain about trekking up the slight hill to South Lot, it’s not that bad. After dark, there is a shuttle bus that drives students to the lot from a number of campus locations three times an hour.
About 40 percent of students have cars on campus, but you can easily live without one. Many places are within walking distance, and a shuttle runs to other places on the weekends. For academic fieldwork, students have access to a Vassar-owned car to get around. Most students have a friend with a car. As much of the social life at Vassar is mainly grounded on campus, having a car is not a necessity to have fun. Having a car can expand your possibilities of exploring the Hudson River Valley.

Cars are sort of a pain, and so is parking. Plus, there’s really nowhere to drive. |

We have one lot for student parking, and when returning from a weekend out late on Sunday evening it can be hard to find a space. Overflow tends to park on the nearby streets. They created a parking lot a mile away from campus for freshman parking. |

South Lot is the only place for students to park if they live in the dorms. It’s a bit of a trek, but not that bad. |

Parking is okay. Freshmen have to park far away, but it makes the parking feasible for the other students, so it’s worth it. |

It sucks. You can only park near your dorm on the weekends; otherwise, you have to park pretty far. If you are a freshman, you can only park your car like a mile away and catch shuttles that go there infrequently. Security is pretty strict about parking violations. You’re in luck, though, if you have flat feet; get a doctor’s note and you can park anywhere you want. |

Good Luck Getting a Parking Spot Here!
Anywhere on campus
After receiving three parking tickets, registered cars will be banned from parking on campus for the remainder of the academic year. Any further violation will result in a $50 fine plus the cost of the parking ticket, and the vehicle will be placed on a tow list. If found on campus again, the vehicle will be towed at the owner’s expense.
