Facts

Interviews & Information Sessions

Information sessions are held daily in the Admission House, with no prior appointment necessary to attend. A member of the admission staff and Vassar students answer questions and explain all aspects of a Vassar education. Call Admissions or consult the office schedule online for specifics as schedules vary from season to season. The Office of Admission is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Interviews are available but not required for admission. Although not conducted on campus, interviews by Vassar alumni are offered in most United States metropolitan areas and in some foreign countries on a first come, first served basis. To request an interview, prospective students are advised to check the appropriate box on the Vassar application or on the Vassar supplement to the common application. It is strongly suggested that all candidates request interviews well before the application deadline, however, to avoid being disappointed.

Campus Tours

Students can be seen walking backwards and shouting all year long. Student-led tours are held at least once each weekday throughout the year and most Saturdays in the spring and fall. Appointments are not necessary. Call Admissions or consult the office schedule online for specifics, as schedules vary from season to season.

Overnight Visits

Come and party like it’s a weekday at Vassar. High school seniors have the opportunity to spend a night in the Vassar residence halls with a student host, Monday–Thursday nights in the fall and spring. Call Admissions early to reserve a spot. Tip 1: As the hosting program only runs weekday nights (wonder why they do that), you should try to get in touch with any Vassar student who you even remotely know of; with six degrees of separation, there’s no excuse not to come on over to stay for the weekend. Although no visit is going to give you a perfect perspective of what it’s like to be a Vassar student, a combination of Friday or Monday classes and some weekend fanfare is the best way experience Vassar life. Tip 2: Talk to people! Students aren’t as intimidating as they look; you’ll meet weird, brilliant, hilarious, and crazy people at Vassar, many of whom would love to tell you what’s on their mind. Tip 3: “Prospie,” the student nickname for prospective students, is an really an endearing term.
