Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students searching for an Animal House or Old School fraternity are looking in the wrong place. Villanova Greek life is treated like any other club or organization on campus. Greek rivalries are nonexistent, and most Greeks have friends in and outside their fraternities and sororities. Greek life offers a great way to meet new people and form close relationships and get involved in philanthropy work. Most spend a couple weekends helping out the underprivileged or raising money for charities, as well as fun events.

However, if it’s the party scene you are interested in, Villanova’s Greek life makes only a small dent. Due to the lack of on-campus Greek housing, most only throw parties on occasion. For popular events, they will rent out a club or bar and charge a small cover. Sororities tend to revolve around formals or cocktail-type events. Many parties off campus are usually broken up by the police within an hour or two, not to mention that none are in walking distance. While Greek life at Villanova offers a great way to meet new people, it is hardly treated any differently than most clubs and organizations, even by the Greeks themselves.

No Housing

Greek life on campus seems to be really prevalent and active. Although, the university does not provide housing for frats and sororities. This discouraged me from joining. There are a few that fund their own housing, and usually use them for parties on the weekends.

Somewhat Popular

There are many girls on campus who sport there sorority gear, and eat dinner together in the dining halls. If you're interested in it, you have to cut your winter break a week short for rush week. There are boys in fraternities and they throw parties in their apartments and houses, so it's good to either join to avoid a cover fee, or just know someone!

Greek

Greek life doesn't dominate the campus but there is definitely a sense of community amongst Greek members. Since there are no houses on campus, frat parties are off campus and generally open to everyone (aka girls) not necessarily Greek students.
