College Prowler Take

Villanova is a school that grows on you—for some it takes only until the end of orientation, for others it takes two semesters or more. Whatever the case, students get caught up in what it means to be a Villanovan and to be from the 'Nova nation. Villanova provides students with an excellent education, well enough to confidently put alumni head-to-head with Ivy grads and be successful. Outside of its rich academic tradition, the students at Villanova come to know and appreciate their fellow students, professors, and surrounding community.

Going to Villanova gives students a unique perspective on college life. Even with a lack of diversity and a party scene that doesn’t start to pick up until you are a junior, Villanova is a fun place to be. Villanova will not give you the typical college life of a wild youth, but regardless, it is a school that is exciting and full of good times. While that might not be what you are looking for, the students who do attend Villanova end up loving the school for everything it offers, from its basketball games and rich traditions, to its Catholic heritage and the full load of academics. It’s a school that you can grow into comfortably, and looking back in later years, are glad to call your home away from home.

My first semester, I was appalled by the lack of diversity on campus, the anemic party scene, and the political apathy at Villanova. I have transfer applications to Columbia, NYU, and UPenn. However, I believe I’ll receive just as good, if not better, education here. I’ll never be taught by a TA at Villanova. The party scene picks up as you know more people, especially more upperclassmen. Politically, I’m on the executive board of the Villanova Democrats now. So, I’ll probably stay.

I have seriously considered transferring enough to the point that I have applied to other schools. It’s hard because all of the upperclassmen rave over the school, and I was not experiencing any of that love. By the end of the first semester, I was tired of having to wait, because all of my friends from other schools were immediately having the best time of their lives. Every school has its pros and cons, and it is up to you to decide what is important before you have high expectations and then just set yourself up for disappointment.

I love Villanova in every facet that this school offers. I have numerous friends from high school who go here. I enjoy the challenges of the classes, meeting new people, and my independence from home. There is no other university that I wish to attend besides Villanova!
