Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The best part about Greek life at VCU is that there are so many different fraternities and sororities to choose from. Also, if you don’t want Greek life to be a part of your social scene, it’s easy to avoid. The students who are involved in Greek life here find it to be a great way to socialize and meet people while gaining tremendous leadership opportunities. They find comfort in a family-type atmosphere and know they always have someone to depend on. Fraternity and sorority members hang out together, take classes together, and throw parties together.

Greeks contribute a lot to the community. By organizing fundraisers and participating in charitable events around the city, such as the Ukrops Monument Avenue 10K, Greeks bring awareness to those in need and help raise money for local organizations. However, right or wrong, no matter what the students in fraternities and sororities do for the community, they will always be seen the way people typically describe them—hard-partying and wild!

greek life has alot of hype around it i guess. don't really see them sporting the letters here much. i don't know about greek housing availability..we don't have sorority houses or anything like that. when the greeks come around everone is pumped and excited to see them perform. they are great entertainment. i on't think students here view them any differently than the average student though. they just have the titleof being a greek.

Greek life at VCU is pretty ok. We do not discriminate. No body is pushed away because of their ethnicity

Mild

Frats and surorities exist, but they are almost purely academic or career focused, even the social ones. There are very heavy restrictions imposed by the school to keep illegal activites (including hazing) supressed. While this is a good thing, it makes organizing big events and social activiteis very difficult for the Greeks here.
