Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The best part about Greek life at VCU is that there are so many different fraternities and sororities to choose from. Also, if you don’t want Greek life to be a part of your social scene, it’s easy to avoid. The students who are involved in Greek life here find it to be a great way to socialize and meet people while gaining tremendous leadership opportunities. They find comfort in a family-type atmosphere and know they always have someone to depend on. Fraternity and sorority members hang out together, take classes together, and throw parties together.

Greeks contribute a lot to the community. By organizing fundraisers and participating in charitable events around the city, such as the Ukrops Monument Avenue 10K, Greeks bring awareness to those in need and help raise money for local organizations. However, right or wrong, no matter what the students in fraternities and sororities do for the community, they will always be seen the way people typically describe them—hard-partying and wild!

Greeks & Non-Greeks, Melting Pot

No greek housing is allowed on campus. Greeks on campus are active but do not take over. It is like one big family, everyone blends well. I've never heard of a non-greek having problems with greek life and vice versa.

Not a Big Deal

While there is definitely a presence of Greek life at VCU, it's not huge. It's not important if you join one, only the people in the frats or sororities really care about Greek life.

Greek If You Like

I am not in Greek life but I don't feel like I am necessarily missing out on anything. The sororities here are mostly involved in community service and don't really host many parties. I have some friends in them and some really like the bond they have with the other girls but some feel more stressed with the additional work the sorority brings.
