Advice on Finding a Job/Internship Going into the “real world” can be a scary thing. Students are often unsure of where they’re going to work and what they’re going to do. VCU’s Career Center can help you map out all options. There are advisors based on your major that will help you edit your résumé and cover letters, look at future options, and inform you of possible internship and job opportunities. Signing up for an online account with VCU’s Career Center can be very useful in finding the latest internship and job opportunities. Another great resource for students is professors. The better you know a professor, the more willing they are to suggest places to look for internships and jobs, and they, too, can help with your résumé. Mock interviews can be really beneficial to students. After all—practice makes perfect. The Career Center offers mock interviews that are taped so that they are able to show you how you can improve. If you don’t feel comfortable doing that, you can find a professor who you feel comfortable with.
