Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Because VCU is located in Richmond, there are many choices for students when planning evening activities. From going to parties on campus or to bars and clubs throughout the city, there is something for everyone. Bars and clubs are usually limited to students age 21 and up. If you’re under 21, you can always go to Mars Bar or Aladdin’s. Walking is usually your best bet when going to parties around campus, and if you’re leaving campus, having a designated driver is a must if you plan on drinking. The school offers an escort service, but students find themselves waiting a lot longer than it would have taken them to find another alternative.

VCU occasionally hosts concerts from time to time but not often. The Richmond Coliseum is located about 5 minutes
away from campus by car, and that’s where the bigger name acts perform. Tickets to these events are generally
expensive, but students get excited when they can see a big-name act so close to campus. Richmond is also home to
an amazing venue called Toad’s Place, which features both nationally touring artists and local acts. Tickets at Toad’s
Place are less expensive than concerts at the Coliseum, and the atmosphere is so much better.

Head for a House

The clubs at VCU are in the bottom a ways away from campus. With only one bus transporting students it is hard to get home when you want to. The best bet is to go to a house party. Here you'll meet more people and in my opinion have a better time usually without having to pay much if anything at all which is a completely different story at the clubs.

Facts

Club Crawler

There are plenty of clubs to choose from downtown, many with different theme nights.

Bar Prowler

There are all different types of bars you can go to downtown and throughout the Fan. You can usually find early-bird specials with beer at great prices during the work week.

Cheapest Place to Get a Drink

Any place with a happy hour!

Organization Parties

If you’re not into the club scene, you can usually find a few parties on the weekends. Most fraternities and some individual houses host parties, but you usually go with people who are associated with the host somehow. There’s no real “frat row” where you can walk down and just pop in.
