Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The weather in Richmond can be a bit unpredictable to say the least. It is not uncommon to have 70- or 80-degree weather in the middle of November. Students are never sure how the weather may turn, so they tend to not be surprised when something drastic happens. A sturdy umbrella that won’t flip when it’s windy is a must. There’s nothing worse than coming to class drenched from the rain you didn’t know was coming. Warm shoes and sneakers or boots, such as Uggs, during the winter and sandals during the warmer months are popular among students. It never snows enough here to actually cancel classes no matter how many students put their pajamas on backwards and do a snow dance.

Students seem to perk up once winter starts to fade and Daylight Savings Time begins. As it gets warmer, students love to hang out in Monroe Park and in the patches of grass around Harris Hall. Students often play catch or just lay out to catch the highly missed warmth of the sun. The only complaint students have is that there are no outdoor pools in the area where they can swim on hot days.

Good Weather

I consider that VCU has good weather. All seasons but it can be too humid at times.

Inconsistent

The weather is a bit strange and inconsistent in Richmond. One day it could be 80 degrees and sunny and the next, 50 degrees and raining. It gets hot in the summer months but in the fall and spring, it is mild and a lot of people hang out outside and relax in the park. It rains quite a lot year-round but it only snows occasionally. When it snows and the roads ice over, classes usually get cancelled because there are a lot of off-campus students that have to commute.

The Weather Is Weird

The weather is weird in Richmond. One day it will be sunny, the next it, hails, then rain, etc. Classes are close and every thing on campus is within 15 minutes apart. You really have to check the weather for each day because you never know.
