Worst Things

  1. Cheap off-campus housing is cheap for a reason.
  2. Construction around campus doesn’t just cause traffic—all of the noise created causes headaches as well.
  3. Crossing major streets during the busy parts of the day can sometimes feel like you’re in a game of Frogger.
  4. Departments at VCU seem to be independent of one another.
  5. Fast connections aren’t always the case with the VCU Internet network.
  6. Parking! It can be expensive to buy a permit each semester, and spots aren’t guaranteed.
  7. Slippery when wet! Rain and brick sidewalks don’t mix.
  8. Sometimes it can be a fight for students to get into the classes they want.
  9. Thirsty? Drinks from vending machines on campus cost $1.25. It may not be faster, but it’s definitely cheaper to get a drink from the cart vendor on the side of the road.
  10. Want to live on campus after your freshman year? Cross your fingers! Students sign up for a lottery, and it’s all luck after that.

Education Program

As much as I aspire to be an Elementary Teacher, my ultimate goal is to become a Reading Specialist! VCU only have a bachelors/masters program for Education, and there plenty of positives about obtaining one's bachelors/masters degree at the same time. But my trouble is, a student cannot teach without both degrees compared to other university colleges where students can teach with their bachelors degree only! I would love to get my masters degree as well, but the masters I need is the masters in Reading Specialist not in Education! What this means for me is I would have to obtain both masters degree in Education in order for me to teach and then later obtain my masters in Reading Specialist. I do not 2 masters, I only need 1! I cannot afford to pay for 2 masters since I am a non-traditonal college student who is living pay check to pay check without any guardian help. It is excellent for VCU since that will bring more revenue for them, but for some students like me who do not want to go the route of obtaining their masters along with bachelors because it does not benefit them.

Ridiculous

It's ridiculous, and honestly most of the people are genuinely shallow. It can be an alright way to make friends, but there is a lot of drama and unnecessary hatred.

Strict Alcohol Policy

Virginia Commonwealth University takes a firm handle on keeping drugs out of the dorm life. If a student drinks inside or around the dorms they stand a very outstanding probability of police involvement. I agree that the school's policy need be strict. However, I also believe that a student should feel comfortable in her/his housing environment. If not they will go elsewhere, do these same things where it may or may not be as safe.
