how are they gonna know if the car belongs to a freshmen or not ?

you have to register your car

you have to go get a decal to park. if you park with no decal you get a ticket or a boot. decals are expensive and they check your classification. You can have a car as a freshman if you have a good enough reason, like you have a job, or you live off campus

Parking is inconvenient, sparse, and fairly expensive. They were building a parking deck the year I graduated, so it might be better now.
