College Prowler Take

Students say that in order to find people using drugs at Virginia Tech, you have to go looking for them. While drug use does happen, it’s not very visible around campus. If students are going to use a substance, it’s usually alcohol or caffeine. The most commonly heard-about drug being used around campus is marijuana. Most students at Tech don’t encounter any drug use at parties or on campus. Students say that if you want to avoid drugs, it is very easy to do; it is as simple as picking who you want to hang out with. Virginia Tech has a “zero tolerance” rule when it comes to drugs, so if you are caught using drugs, it is almost guaranteed you’ll be suspended—if not expelled.

Alcohol, caffeine, and tobacco are the most popular substances on campus, while illegal drugs are harder to find. Drugs are definitely around the University, but not blatantly so. Virginia Tech has strict policies against the use of illegal drugs, and students face harsh penalties if caught. There is, inevitably, some drug activity at Tech, but most students agree that avoiding drugs is almost easier than finding them.

It's easy to be involved with drugs because something is always going on. But it's also easy to just have a good time without them.
