“These buildings look like castles,” one student remarked on his first visit to Tech. Indeed, some of the buildings at Virginia Tech do look a little like castles, with their limestone exterior and unique architecture. However, some of the most ancient looking buildings have some of the most state-of-the-art setups inside, and buildings are continuing to go up. In 2009, a brand new residence hall with apartments for upperclassmen will open, along with a new athletics facility. The buildings that have been at Tech for a while are also in pretty good shape and are kept up with repairs and renovations. In Fall 2009, East Ambler Johnston Hall will undergo a $65 million renovation, and Shultz Dining Center will be razed and completely rebuilt.
Students at Tech are most impressed by the gyms, dining halls, and the newer classrooms on campus. Virginia Tech continues to improve old structures while building new ones. As for dorms, though, the majority could use some work (of the facilities on campus, the dorms are the least impressive). Tech’s campus does have a neat, unified look because of the stone on the exterior of all the buildings. While the stone doesn’t affect much on the inside of the buildings, it does make the campus attractive.
