Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

With around 20,000 undergrads at Tech, there are bound to be at least a few hotties wandering around campus. But Tech students will tell you that there are a disproportionately large number of good-looking students at Tech, and they’re distributed across academic interests. The engineering departments are definitely dominated by guys, while there are tons of female psychology majors. Luckily, students tend to hang out across majors so the male/female ratio evens out. Most times, Tech students don’t notice the ratio, and there always seems to be plenty of the opposite sex around.

While students usually dress casually for class, they make a conscious effort to look their best when going out on the town. You never know who you’ll meet. Students who spend their evening on campus can only hang out in opposite sex rooms till 2 a.m. in most dorms. This rule isn’t very strictly enforced, and roommates usually work out visiting rules between themselves. While students are focused on having a good time, Schiffert Health Center aims to keep everyone safe. The health center sells Trojan condoms for discounted prices and offers discrete STD and HIV testing. Sometimes, it seems like half of the reason for going to class is academics, and the other half is to check people out. Tech students consider their campus to be a pretty attractive one overall. Students make sure that tests and grades don’t limit them from getting out and meeting people. Tech students are generally friendly, especially when talking to a cute classmate.

Girls at VT

Girls as a whole at VT are pretty attractive, what you might expect at a southern school. The reason they do not get a higher grade is that for the most part they tend to be stuck up. If you can work around the superficiality you'll be fine if you can't, the girls of VT may not be for you.

All Great

There are lots of different people at Tech, from the farmer boys to the sporty girls. I'd say most people are pretty attractive and lead a varied social life!

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

Students at Tech like to get out and meet people, and there are plenty of opportunities to do so. Many times, just going to class can lead to new friends. Working in a group for an assignment can be followed up by hanging out at a party. Most of the clubs at Tech, including the academic ones, have some sort of social component. It's possible to be a loner at Tech, but most students find it easier and more fun to be a part of the social scene.

Hookups or Relationships?

Partying on the weekends and going downtown leads to many hookups. Occasionally, a random hookup even leads to a relationship. There are lots of couples at Tech, but there are probably just as many students who are only looking to hook up.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Since Tech has such a large student body in such a small town, there are all kinds of places to meet hotties. For casual meetings, students play Frisbee or touch football in front of the dorms and talk to people who walk by. Flirting even goes on between students who meet in class. There are lots of local bands that put on shows around Blacksburg, and shows are a great way to meet people with common music tastes. Downtown and parties are definitely popular places to meet people, but you can also find many hotties sweating it out at the gym.

Dress Code

The dress code at Tech is definitely casual. Jeans and a T-shirt are almost a uniform when it comes to dressing for class. Students also wear pajamas, workout clothes, dresses, and suits to class. However, if you're dressed up, you definitely stand out more.
