Worst Things

  1. Honk, honk, honk. There is no parking to be found anywhere. The University gives out way too many parking passes.
  2. The wind, not to mention the weather in general, is unpredictable.
  3. It can sometimes be difficult with classes of 300 or more students to feel like you are getting individual attention from professors.
  4. Dorms. They’re small, they’re always ridiculously hot, and you can guarantee when the fire alarm goes off it will be either 2 a.m., raining, freezing cold, or, most likely, all of the above.
  5. Classes are on opposite ends of the campus.
  6. Everyone liking football is good; everyone driving to football games at the same time is bad. The traffic can be a downright mess.
  7. Sometimes drinking gets out of control and leads to accidents.
  8. Getting lunch during the mid-day rush can be tricky.
  9. Sometimes it's hard to get into all of the classes you want.
  10. Blacksburg is not a big city.

Take the Bus If You Can

Permits for students are expensive (but not really compared to other VA schools), about $100/semester. We have lots of construction going on and many parking spaces were taken away. The new parking garage helps, but not enough. Depending on where your classes are, you may have to walk pretty far from you car. Also, game days are the worst. Don't drive or park on campus if you can help it. Freshman have to park in "the cage". It's not too bad. Plus, freshman don't really need to drive much.

It Snows a Ton, and Its Very Cold

Classes never get canceled which is a good thing, but it sucks to have to walk to classes that are far away in the blistering cold. Also, it makes it more of a hassle to go to parties. In the fall when it is warm, everyone is outside running or playing sports or studying.

Not Being White

Virginia Tech is mostly a White campus. Although there are many different kinds of people within the campus, you don't see them too often and being someone who is a minority, this can sometimes be intimidating. More so if you come from an area where white people make up not even half of the percentage of the population.
