Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Greek life at Wake Forest is certainly big, but there are other options, too. However, especially as a freshman and sophomore, Greek life is going to be a huge part of the social scene. Most students will find their niche of friends, both Greek and independent, and what frat/sorority you are in becomes less important in your junior and senior years.

The dynamic at Wake Forest is a bit different because there is no frat row. Rather, frats and sororities have blocks of housing and lounges located in the upperclassmen residence halls. Frats have parties in both their lounges and off-campus houses, but they are generally open to everyone, regardless of affiliation. Rushing at Wake is deferred, which means you do not rush until your second semester freshman year. Some people also choose to rush first semester of their sophomore year. Most students agree that Greek life can be a great experience. You get a core group of friends, and it is a great avenue to be involved within the campus community. However, rest assured, it is possible to have a great social life without being in a frat or sorority.

All Greek All the Time

If you go to Wake, you need to join a fraternity/sorority. There is a very limited social scene outside of Greek life, and unless you have a deep interest in something like the performance arts, you will be very lonely. For the most part you can still go to the parties, even if you are not in the frat/sorority, but when it comes to the rest of your social life... good luck.

Greek Life at Wake Forest

Greek life definitely holds the most influence on what your nighttime activities are during the weekend. Generally, neither girls nor guys have trouble getting into parties, especially on-campus parties. Wake doesn't have a "Greek Row" which allows Greeks and non-Greeks to interact more. Also rush is deferred unitl second semester freshman year, which gives ample time to decide if one wants to rush. Can be a good way to find a core group of friends if you're willing to pay the price tag that comes with it.

Greek is sweet

The greek life at this school is really fun, as a male I've never had a problem going to different fraternities. Having the lounges and the off-campus houses makes for an awesome scene.

Through the tailgating, partying, and general presence on campus greek life leaves a positive footprint on Wake's social dynamic.

I'd give Greek life an A plus if we had a frat row... that'd be clutch.
