Greek life at Wake Forest is certainly big, but there are other options, too. However, especially as a freshman and sophomore, Greek life is going to be a huge part of the social scene. Most students will find their niche of friends, both Greek and independent, and what frat/sorority you are in becomes less important in your junior and senior years.
The dynamic at Wake Forest is a bit different because there is no frat row. Rather, frats and sororities have blocks of housing and lounges located in the upperclassmen residence halls. Frats have parties in both their lounges and off-campus houses, but they are generally open to everyone, regardless of affiliation. Rushing at Wake is deferred, which means you do not rush until your second semester freshman year. Some people also choose to rush first semester of their sophomore year. Most students agree that Greek life can be a great experience. You get a core group of friends, and it is a great avenue to be involved within the campus community. However, rest assured, it is possible to have a great social life without being in a frat or sorority.
