Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Wake Forest University itself is considered very safe. The gated campus is closed to the public from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., which certainly deters would-be criminals. There have been isolated incidents on campus, but these have almost exclusively been in desolate parking lots or involved inebriated students. Being aware of your surroundings and using common sense can go a long way in making you as safe as possible. The campus is very well lit, and campus police are helpful.

The Student Health Center is located in Reynolds Gym and offers an array of services including primary care, a pharmacy, and STD/HIV testing. It is certainly a convenient and valuable resource for students. However, with a small staff, the health center can easily get overwhelmed, as can sometimes happen during flu season. Despite this, the staff makes every effort to help students.

Safe Environment

Wake Forest has a very small student population where the first two years at the school require the student to live on campus. Because there are many dorms and student living on campus, it is extremely safe. At night, there is gated entry and 24-hour security working the gate. Also, the campus is patrolled by police officers in golf carts. I have never once felt threatened while on campus. Additionally, there is very little crime. Students leave laptops and textbooks around with no fear of theft.

Safety

Safety on campus is great. I always feel safe and I really feel like the police are there just to keep the students safe. I feel like they are doing what law enforcement really should do, they're not just there to get the students into trouble.

A Gated Bubble, Keeping Everything in

Many students feel comfortable and safe at Wake. Students can still be found walking around campus comfortably at 2 AM and leave their stuff lying around without it usually being disturbed. Wake does a pretty good job of letting us know what is going on in terms of illnesses, deaths, threats to security, or crimes through email. There is also an emergency text system, but there hasn't been a recent need to use it. The campus is also gated, preventing unregistered or uninvited cars from entering from 10 PM and 5 AM. Unfortunately when there are issues, the University seems quick to cover them up and some students feel that they are not always handled appropriately. Because everyone is close, outbreaks of illness can occur quickly. Regardless, I feel incredibly safe at Wake.
