Winston-Salem surprisingly has great diversity in dining options. From some of the cheaper student-favored restaurants surrounding the University to some great cuisine downtown, options are plentiful. For cheap food, you can't go wrong with going to one of the many great Mexican restaurants near Wake's campus, like La Carreta and Mi Pueblo. If Mexican food is not your thing, try Ishi Japanese Restaurant or Elizabeth's Italian Restaurant, as both provide quality food and great value. Probably the best "hidden gem" place to eat is Rose's Deli. Although located next to a gas station, Rose's has great sandwiches, cheap pitchers of beer, and an outdoor patio (that is heated in the winter) to enjoy them all with friends.

If you are looking for a finer dining experience, downtown Winston-Salem has a variety of options from Sixth & Vine to the Old Fourth Street Filling Station that are sure to impress. Of course, no Wake student's experience is complete without a late-night trip to Cook Out for a burger and shake. Cook Out is a North Carolina chain that offers cheap food and amazing shakes.
