Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Winston-Salem surprisingly has great diversity in dining options. From some of the cheaper student-favored restaurants surrounding the University to some great cuisine downtown, options are plentiful. For cheap food, you can't go wrong with going to one of the many great Mexican restaurants near Wake's campus, like La Carreta and Mi Pueblo. If Mexican food is not your thing, try Ishi Japanese Restaurant or Elizabeth's Italian Restaurant, as both provide quality food and great value. Probably the best "hidden gem" place to eat is Rose's Deli. Although located next to a gas station, Rose's has great sandwiches, cheap pitchers of beer, and an outdoor patio (that is heated in the winter) to enjoy them all with friends.

If you are looking for a finer dining experience, downtown Winston-Salem has a variety of options from Sixth & Vine to the Old Fourth Street Filling Station that are sure to impress. Of course, no Wake student's experience is complete without a late-night trip to Cook Out for a burger and shake. Cook Out is a North Carolina chain that offers cheap food and amazing shakes.

Restaurants Around Campus

There are several options off campus. Mi Pueblo is the best cheap Mexican restaurant around and it is very authentic. There are other good sushi, greek, thai, and american restaurants.

Lots of Places to Eat

Although Winston is a small town, there is a lot of different places to eat off campus. Anything from sushi, to brunch, to good southern comfort food you can find it. You need a car, but everything is within a 10 minute radius and really good!!!

Off Campus Dining

There are a lot of off campus dining options, all of which are delicious. Depending on where you choose to go the price can vary. While there are tons of options and many do offer student discounts, none take the Wake Forest meal plan as a form of payment. One pizza place will accept Deacon Dollars, which is essentially money put onto your student ID, as a form of payment. There is public transportation but it basically a necessity that one has a car to get to any off campus dining locations.
