Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

One of the great things about Wake Forest is the campus community that exists. This can certainly be attributed to the fact that students are required to spend their first two years on campus. However, when students have spent four straight semesters on campus, they are eligible to apply for off-campus housing. Off-campus housing can be a great option because real estate in Winston-Salem (especially near Wake Forest University) is very reasonable. Off-campus housing also gives students the added freedoms of both floor space and lifestyle.

Off-campus living does have its drawbacks—namely that class is no longer a two-minute walk away. Furthermore, students have to drive themselves to campus and then find parking. Parking is a major deterrent for students, though the University does have shuttles that run from the various apartment complexes to campus throughout the day. Overall, it comes down to what is the best option for the student.

It must be noted that students need to apply to live off campus. This entails renting from an approved landlord (or getting your prospective landlord approved) and filling out a form for Residence Life and Housing. While this seems messy, it is just a formality—only rarely is a student denied in their request to live off-campus.

Available, but Not Popular

You have to live on campus for your first 2 years, after that it is your choice. Most people choose to stay on campus because it is easier. But Crowne Oaks, Crowne Park, Crowne Polo, and many houses off campus are pretty much made for students to live in. Definitely affordable and easy.

Never Lived in Off Campus Housing

Full merit scholarships require that a student remain on campus all four years. Beats finding parking every day.
