The weather in Winston-Salem and on the Wake Forest campus is simply glorious but has the variety of four distinct seasons. The hot North Carolina summer that you will enjoy upon arrivial transitions into a balmy fall that is conducive to both being outside and wearing short sleeves.
Beginning in the middle of November, it starts to get chilly outside. You can easily spot students who are from the south by their scarves, gloves, and heavy jackets that they wear at the slightest nip in the air. Winter in Winston-Salem also brings the occasional snowfall, which, apart from being a lot of fun, usually cancels classes. The first few snowflakes that fall have the students hoping that they will receive that special e-mail.
Spring in the south is gorgeous, and Winston-Salem is no exception. Students really take advantage of the weather, and you will always find people outside socializing, running, or studying. Something important to know is that the campus walkways flood when it rains. This means that you should either invest in a nice pair of rain boots or plan on dodging puddles along the way to class.
