Warren Wilson prides itself on its more realistic approach to campus discipline. RAs and RDs are likely to look the other way of minor violations if no one’s safety is compromised but won’t hesitate to intercede respectfully if a resident is being unsafe or unhealthy. You are more likely to have a sit-down talk with residence life staff than you are to be written up. If you are written up, you head to a more serious talk with the Dean of Students.
There is a desire by the staff to work through problems with the student rather than punish and ignore them. No one in the student life offices wants to get anyone expelled, and most mediations lead to appointments with the counselor on staff that deals with substance abuse as opposed to punishment-style actions. That being said, there are some issues that require police intervention, suspension, or expulsion, and the safety, security, and health of students at Wilson is by no means compromised by the administration or the students. Violations that should be taken seriously are, and more minor transgressions are treated in a more lenient manner.
