Warren Wilson students feel incredibly safe on their campus at all hours of day or night. It is very common for students to leave their rooms and cars unlocked. The most common crime on campus is theft, primarily of unlocked bicycles, and it is nearly always the work of non-Wilson off-campus people. Because it is such a small community, it tends to take care of itself and its members. Strangers are immediately obvious if not with a community member. Staff security officers and student public safety officers make periodic rounds but aren’t rude or power-hungry. As long as you are being safe and responsible, your actions probably won’t be questioned. Police officers are somewhat of a rarity on campus, although they are called in periodically.

Safety isn’t even a concern for most students, especially since the recent addition of locks on dorm buildings that require a WWC ID for entry. RAs and RDs have a good reputation for providing students with support without being overbearing. Although the health center is small, it is entirely run by the Wilson community and offers most health services, as well as rides to any necessary off-campus health visits. The Wellness Office is also a popular resource for health concerns.

Relatively Safe

We've got Public Safety, who just roll around campus in their SUV all day long, and I would trust them to show up in a timely fashion if I ever had to call them about a safety emergency. I wouldn't drink a beer in front of them, though.

Warren Wilson's Public Safety definitely keeps a lookout for all the students, but also is sometimes a bit too strict towards students because there's not much else to do. Since there's only 900 students, Public Safety likes to write up students. However, being a Work College, there are a lot of students on Public Safety, who don't want to make enemies by ratting out their peers.

A Friend in Need..

When it comes to it WWC and it community is very understanding and heartfelt. The schools makes it so that every student is very well informed about the happenings of Wilson. The consolers here at this school are very professional and will do everything in their power to help out person in need. the students and staff are the same way always there to help each other.
