Warren Wilson is by nature a residential college. Nearly 90 percent of students live on campus, and much of the social life is centered on activities based here. Off-campus work contracts are available but limited, so while some students continue to take part in the work program, others get jobs in Asheville. There is very little stigma attached to staying in the dorms until graduation, and most dorms have residents of all class standings. We are an inclusive community, and while upperclassmen may occasionally poke fun at freshmen, there is a real sibling love between students.

That being said, some Wilson students successfully move off-campus. West Asheville is popular for its relatively low rents and for the population of Wilson students and grads already living there. Houses in Swannanoa are usually cheaper and closer, but a little harder to come by. The newly built Village apartment-style suites offer a great compromise. They are set further from main campus than most halls, giving a little more privacy, but maintain the community feel and keep costs low.
