Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Warren Wilson is a wonderfully unique college. It tends to be described as something more than a college—students are not attracted here exclusively for the academic program, or even the work and service components. It is an experience more than an education, and what students learn here goes beyond any of their expectations. Because of this special “other” aspect, Wilson can’t be described properly in words, especially in the same categories as other schools.

When students visit, they tend to feel either an overwhelming attraction or a sincere repulsion, and we understand and respect both reactions. When it is right for someone to be here, they find a way to be here and help our community become as supportive and joyous as it can be. It certainly is not the right college for everyone, but the people who become Warren Wilson students hold this special place close to our hearts our entire lives, and are always thankful for the lessons learned and the people met in our little corner of Appalachia.

Exactly Where I Need to Be

Deciding to go to Warren Wilson is definitely an active choice. You go to this school because you want something more than the average college experience, and that is what Warren Wilson delivers. That being said, it isn't for everyone and some people have to come here for a brief semester before they realize that it isn't quite for them. But for people who make the Warren Wilson experience work for them, it provides the kind of education that prepares for life in a way that other colleges that don't incorporate work or service simply can't. Plus, once you're a part of this community, you are free to be exactly who you want to be and be supported by some group within the community. No one will ever say that people at WWC are not friendly. Sure we're opinionated and we tend to get riled up over every different political or social justice issue, but we greet everyone with a smile and always try to have good intentions.

:)

Warren Wilson admits it's not for everyone. If you are open to things you never encountered before and to ideas you've never dreamed of existing, then you will find an open community. Though many people here have opinions varying quite considerably from the norm, everyone is respected. At Warren Wilson you will work and learn and have fun doing it.

I love it. For the first time in a long time, I'm actually happy. It's not the hardest place academically, but I'm finally in a supportive community where I feel valued. It's incredible, and everything is beautiful.
