Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The city bus runs from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. on weekdays and 12 p.m. to 1 a.m on weekends, and it stops in front of the Warren Wilson library every hour on the hour. The bus is notoriously about seven minutes late, and it does not run on Sunday, but it’s free with your ID, and students, even those with cars, take advantage of it often. The bus goes all the way into Asheville and stops at the grocery store, pharmacy, and anywhere else on Tunnel Road.

Carpooling and car-sharing is more common than any other form of transportation, and if one person in your group of friends has a functioning vehicle, you’re probably set. The Health Center and Public Safety both give rides to legitimate necessities, like doctor appointments, so you’ll never be stranded. The “hitching post” by the chapel is a fantastic place to wait for a ride from other Wilson students heading out into the world. An overwhelming amount of people have bikes on campus (and you can get bikes for super cheap at the campus bike shop) and some ride them into town or to the grocery store as well.

Terrible.

The buses that go around WWC are completely unreliable. Freshman aren't able to have cars, and most upperclassmen don't have them either. Generally, transportation is an obstacle.

Sad Buses

It is free to ride some of the buses thats the only good thing. The bad thing is that most of the year the bus runs on metro-time which means the bus will be 15mins to an hour late on any given day. There are also times when buses will skip over whole routes.

Public transportation is pretty...

Public transportation is pretty good but not perfect. A bus runs every day except for Sunday, which can sometimes be annoying because Sunday would be a nice day to catch the bus into town to go to a café to study or have breakfast. Also, the bus doesn't come until 4 every day, which can also be annoying if you are done with class sooner than that and you want to go somewhere. But since WWC is kind of out in the country, it wouldn't make much sense for a bus to drive all the way out there just to pick up one student. The bus is free for students, which is great, and it runs late on the weekends.

The ride board in lower Gladfelter connects people who need a ride to those who are headed somewhere—it’s great for getting home for breaks, going to shows in Asheville or Charlotte, and meeting new people.
