Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Warren Wilson is incredibly beautiful, regardless of the weather. There is as much charm in a sunny spring morning as a rainy winter afternoon. The air is always fresh, the cows are mooing, and the outside world beckons. We are a farm school, and students try to appreciate seemingly endless rain for the necessary irrigation as much as we enjoy fields of sunshine.

The weather is definitely unpredictable. A morning that begins beautifully can become a cold, stormy day, and a grey morning can become a sunny frolicking afternoon. It snows enough to block the roads a few times a year, and while classes are never officially cancelled, off-campus professors sometimes can’t make it in to work. Springtime brings out the joy in the campus as we start shedding clothes, jumping into the river, and lounging in the cow pastures Fall is also a favorite for the colorful mountain scenes, but each season has its own special beauty.

Beautiful Weather

People are apt to say, "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes". The mountains are beautiful and the sunsets can be to die for. Showers are common, but often only last minutes at a time. It can snow a good deal on the winter, but everything is within walking distance and easy to reach.

Through Rain and Snow...

Most days are comfortable and sunny, but we get a little bit of everything: snow and ice and rain with some frequency in the fall. It's hot in early fall and late spring, and pretty chilly at times in the winter. Classes are not often cancelled college-wide due to weather: professors make the call depending on whether they can get to class. On campus, you can walk anywhere in any weather, but have a rain coat and boots for icy/rainy weather.

It's beautiful and warm when you...

It's beautiful and warm when you first arrive and when you leave. Shorts and T-shirts are great, but because we are slightly in the mountains, the evenings and mornings are still cold, so bring a range of clothes. Winter is winter, for the most part.
