Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Night owls and procrastinators rejoice! The Technology Center’s ground floor lab is open 24 hours a day, accessible with a student ID. It is one of the most valuable resources imaginable during weeks of heavy work loads, especially if your roommate is not particularly fond of the steady clacks of your typing at 3 a.m. Very rarely is it ever a challenge to find an open terminal, the notable exceptions being the nights right before finals and occasionally during midterms. Mac users are a bit short-changed, what with virtually every computer lab outside of some of the Tech Center classrooms running Windows. Aside from the Tech Center main lab, the library’s labs close at 2 a.m. during the week, and the Burnett Center and Old Main labs close around midnight. If the Tech Center is too crowded or noisy for you, these other labs offer valuable refuge during the day and evening. Still, the benefits of having your own computer in your room cannot be ignored. Internet connectivity is almost never a problem in the labs, but it goes down occasionally in some of the residence halls, so don’t always rely on it for last-minute online submissions or e-mails. The biggest shortcoming of the Internet Technology Services office at W&J is that they provide virtually no help with students’ personal computers. Aside from free virus protection software (available at either the Tech Center or the front desk of the library), the ITS office leaves students pretty much on their own.

Great Computer Access

It's very nice having a computer lab with new working computers. You have the option of either using a Mac or PC, which I think is very helpful depending on what you are doing. As well, it is very helpful that the school allows free printing.
