Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

While there are enough spaces around campus for everyone, not all of the parking lots are desirable. The freshmen always get placed in Taylor Lot, which is at the complete opposite end of campus from where their dorms are. W&J is a very small campus, though, so it's not like the walk is that far. It's just not as close as the senior parking lots, which are right behind their dorms.

Students not liking the lots they are assigned is the main cause of ticketing. Some students try to sneak into other lots, which makes fewer spots available for the students that are supposed to park there, but eventually security catches up with them and gives them a ticket. If you get a ticket, most times the school is willing to work with you and many times will drop the fine. The tickets that students get in campus lots are only from campus security, but if you wander off campus to park and commit a parking violation, then you will be ticketed by the city. As long as students pay attention to the rules, though, they won't get ticketed. If you have a parking permit, it is silly to find somewhere off campus to park because you have to pay and most likely you will be farther away from your dorm than if you parked in any of the school lots.

Parking

Parking is free for all students on campus. Prime parking locations are limited though and you may have to walk 5-10min to your building.

Parking

You are able to have a parking spot, just be careful where you park when you're not parking in a lot. Cars are really necessary your Freshmen and Sophomore year (unless you want to do an internship or have a job off campus). There are shuttles that take to Walmart, the Mall, into Pittsburgh, etc.

Free!

It's not always the easiest thing to find a spot near your building at peak times, but it's free for all 4 years to get the pass, so I'm not complaining. Plenty of lots all around campus so your absolute longest walk will be like 5 minutes.

Facts

Getting a Parking Permit

Student parking permits are free and surprisingly easy to get. Seniors are obviously given priority, but unless someone turns in their forms late, I've never heard of even a lowly freshman being denied a parking permit just because there weren't enough spaces left over. The Protection Services office can, however, deny people permits based on past tickets or parking violations. Although it is relatively easy to get a permit (all you have to do is fill out the online request form), getting a good lot is the hard part. The permits are not assigned by specific spaces but by lots, so everyone hopes to get a lot close to their dorm.

Did You Know? Every year in the student satisfaction surveys, the college asks students how they can improve parking on campus. This is how the newly expanded Chestnut Street parking lot came about.
