Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The weather in Western Pennsylvania is, surprisingly, highly unpredictable. Even though there is almost always some form of precipitation in the five-day forecast, the weather reports constantly seem to get the exact weather wrong. When we are expecting sunny skies, we get rain, and when we expect rain, we get snow instead. While the weather can get a little hazardous, students should not get their hopes up that school will be cancelled. In the past 15 years, W&J has only closed the school down once after a blizzard, and that was only because the rest of Pennsylvania had declared a state of emergency. Despite what students may think, the college is not doing this to punish us; they keep the school open because the campus is small and the majority of students and faculty live on or near the campus and can reach their classes safely.

Despite what the weather may throw at W&J, students tend to make the best of it rain or shine. The summer, early fall, and late spring are all pleasant, and most students can be found outside making use of the green spaces. In the winter, once students venture out of their dorms, everyone ends up having fun. The fraternities usually build igloos on the lawns outside of their houses, and after one very memorable snow storm, about 500 students came rushing out of their dorms to start a spontaneous snowball fight.

Constant Rain

We have lake effect here, so there is constant rain in the spring and fall, but in the winter it's great if you like snow. When it clears up and there's a sunny day outside, people really take the time to appreciate it.
