Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students on campus have a few options when it comes time to grab some munchies or a sit-down meal. The student dining hall, or “Marketplace” (its regal, official name) has a popular hot dog and hamburger bar, plus fresh deli sandwiches on demand. The Café, also in the Commons, is more affordable than the Marketplace (an average meal costs between $4 and $7), and the food is generally tasty. The specials add a little variety, which is otherwise lacking. Favorites include the Sunrise breakfast sandwiches, breadsticks, and beef cheesesteak subs. The daily specials are usually yummy. As an added bonus, the Café has all of the caffeine and chocolate a tired student could hope for: Red Bull, candy bars, and coffee on tap.

Freshmen have to purchase the full meal plan, 21 meals per week. Very few students actually eat all this food—for example, many feel that sleep is often more valuable than breakfast; so some of this money goes down the drain. But upperclassmen can choose from a variety of meal plans, some of them much less expensive than the freshman plan. One option that a lot of students do involves eating at their respective fraternity or sorority. The Greek houses each have their own cook and offer a variety of different foods to eat.

Relatively Good

The quality of the food is better than some other university's that I've had, but there are not a lot of options or variety. D-hall is open until 7pm and freshmen meal plans give you all-you-can-eat kind of access. The coop is open until midnights on "school nights," so there's always food to be had for late-night study sessions. The newly-built Hillel House gives an extra lunch option, but small operational hour windows.

D-Hall

D-Hall Freshman year isn't that bad. It gets a little old after awhile but it's consistently pretty good food. Co-op also has delicious food and offers a place to take a nice study break. Generally most people don't buy the D-Hall meal plan after Freshman year because they're either on the Greek meal plan or have houses with actual kitchens that offer more variety but everyone agrees that they miss the frozen yogurt machine!

Convenient and Friendly

The people who work there are great and the food is fine. It's like any other cafeteria and so people often complain but also miss it when it's gone. In terms of outside the shall there are very limited eating options but since campus is so small it's fine. The food quality is great in the coop
