Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The restaurant offerings in Lexington run the whole spectrum of culinary delight (and dislike), although some students are not satisfied with the offerings. On the sophisticated side, Lexington has the Sheridan Livery Inn ($25 a plate—ouch). Despite, or because of, its price tag, it’s always an impressive destination reserved either for really special dates or a place to take the parents when they are paying. For more casual outings, Smokin’ Jim’s Firehouse Barbeque and Salerno’s are student favorites. Most students can find what they are craving, or if they really have motivation, will take the hour to drive to Roanoke to find it.

New eating (and drinking) places are sprouting up in Lexington: a corner bakery, an alternative coffee shop, a French restaurant, and a sushi bar are the latest additions. But beware: just about everything closes down at 9 or
10 p.m. So W&L students often end up relying on Domino’s
or the Stop-In to feed their late-night cravings. There are a couple of other late-night options open for students, the Waffle House and Berky’s Restaurant, which offer 24-hour dining; however, some students find going to these
places to be a little sketchy, so they stick to the late-night Wendy’s window.

Inexpensive, but Limited Options

There aren't a lot of options beyond fast food - maybe ten places in all of Lexington, but they aren't bad, and they are generally pretty inexpensive. There are a couple nice restaurants, which is nice for formal events like homecoming.

Wide Variety for Small Town

Lots of great restaurants. Classy and fast food. Late night there are not very many options. Other than that, can't complain.

Lexington Restaurants

There are tons of good restaurants in Lexington. Nico's Greek restaurant, Blue Sky bakery and Deli, Southern Inn, Bistro, Joyful Spirit cafe, Beam Me Up BBQ, Macado's are all within two blocks of campus and really good food. You also have dominoes and Chinese delivery to campus for late night snacks. Good Eats and Lexington Coffee are great in the mornings for donuts, bagels, coffee. And then for nicer occasions there is the Livery and the Red Hen which are both awesome.
