Facts

Interviews & Information Sessions

Call the Admissions office at (540) 458-8710 on any weekday from 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. EST. The Admissions staff interviews Mondays through Saturdays between May and December. On-campus interviews are not offered December 17 through April 30, but students can interview off-campus with W&L alumni in their local area until January 31. Note: Washington and Lee “strongly recommends” that applicants have an interview.

Campus Tours

Campus tours run Monday through Saturday, except on holidays, between semesters, and during finals. (Saturday tours are not available in the summer). Between September and December and during May, weekday tours depart every hour between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Morning tours are available between January and April. Check with the Admissions office for tour availability, and get to the Gilliam House (Admissions office) 10 minutes early! Most tours are guided by current W&L students.

Overnight Visits

Accepted students are invited to campus for overnight stays in the spring, and recruits for varsity sports also come to campus for hosted visits. Students competing for Honor Scholarships are required to make a two-day visit. Regular applicants do not usually stay overnight until accepted. Rising high school seniors can get the authentic W&L experience through the Summer Scholars program. About 150 students spend four weeks at W&L, living in the dorms, sampling the food, and studying real University courses (taught by real faculty) in journalism, business, pre-med studies, politics, or law. Did You Know? Washington and Lee values the whole student, not just their achievements on paper. Make sure the school representative sees a whole person, not just a brain, for the interview.
