Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Considering the intellectual quotient of Wash U’s undergrads, the kids here are surprisingly photogenic. This is partially because the highly athletic student population has a knack for staying in shape and keeping their bodies healthy. Guys and girls with flat abs and muscled legs can regularly be seen jogging near campus, lifting weights in the AC, and playing fast-paced ultimate Frisbee or soccer in the Swamp or Mudd field. Most people are slim, fit, and know how to dress to show it off (or undress, as the case may be).

There are plenty of attractive girls and guys to be found, it’s just a matter of getting out and meeting them. Sexual relations at Wash U begin with the usual college immaturity and insecurity—awkward hookups, short-lived boyfriends and girlfriends. But overall, the student population is active and fun, and enjoys the company of the opposite sex (or the same sex, according to preference).

Study Hard, Party Harder.

There are a variety of girls at WashU, ranging from the party animals to the library book worms. All of them are intellectuals.

Washu Goggles

The general consesus here is that the average guy is better looking than the average girl, though there are attractive members of both genders. It's just a matter of finding them. Students here often complain of "Wash U Goggles", though they're putting themselves into the stereotype by saying so. Generally, everyone is very friendly, and meeting people isn't difficult at all.

Its a Decent Sized School

There are enough people that while you may find some unattractive girls, there are some very very stunning ones. In general, those who say any campus has ugly girls its either because its too small a campus to have some variety or they simply have no game and always go for ugly girls. Luckily WashU is big enough to have a large variety of girls. When the weather's good girls will wear sundresses and skirts to class. In general, even if your simply going to greek row, girls will dress up for any occasion. Guys and girls here are very accepting and social.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

Even though only 25% of the students are in fraternities/sororities, they throw the majority of on-campus parties. For underclassmen, fraternity parties are popular because they are open and nearby. However, there are also many non-Greek subcultures that throw parties in dorms and apartments, like the the stoners, the KWUR (Wash U radio) crowd, the jocks, and the artsy crowd. The social scene for upperclassmen tends to take place more off-campus.

Hookups or Relationships?

Hookups are quite common during freshman and sophomore years, although by junior and senior year, people tend to get more serious and look for long-term relationships. Wash U kids, like any other group of college students, have their needs, though, so it's not uncommon for random hookups to occur all the way through senior year.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

The best place to meet guys and girls at Wash U is through extracurricular activities (clubs, sports, artistic or religious organizations). The follow-up, of course, takes place everywhere else—at frat parties, in Ursa's or the Hilltop Café, in Bowles Plaza, etc. First getting to know girls/guys in a more intimate setting, where you share an interest, later allows for casual encounters in the popular places of campus life: the Quad, parties, the library, the eateries, and so forth.

Dress Code

Kids don’t get too creative with their appearance, and they stick with the clean-cut, classy look. Polos, button-downs, or T-shirts with khakis or jeans are standard for guys; loose pants or skirts and simple tops or T-shirts for girls. In the winter, everyone bundles up in pea coats or winter jackets, jeans, and boots.
