College Prowler Take
It’s always nice to venture off campus to find a more exotic, romantic, or classy atmosphere for dining. Fortunately, St. Louis offers a wide variety of cuisine, from Thai and Vietnamese, to Jamaican, Brazilian, and German. A number of fine restaurants lie within walking distance of the campus, especially in Clayton (Portabella, Crazy Fish, Miso, and Il Vicino are some student favorites); the University City Loop is popular, as well. More exotic cuisine usually requires a car trip, however. For example, the fabulous India’s Rasoi, which is located in the Central West End, or Yemanja Brasil, nestled deep in mid-town St. Louis on Pestalozzi, are both must-eats, but are not within walking-distance.
Affordable, quick meals are certainly available in the nearby Loop area. Everyone who discovers the Middle Eastern flavors of Cunetto’s Gyro House and Al Tarboush becomes a regular customer. And Brandt’s and Addi’s offer more refined dining, for a date or for dinner with visiting relatives, all just a few blocks from campus. In all, with some looking, diners will find that almost every range of price, flavor, and atmosphere imaginable exists among St. Louis restaurants.

The Central West End is a good...
The Central West End is a good place to go for food. You have really upscale dining, like Zoë Pan-Asian and Cafe Balaban. The Wild Flower (awesome place to get a bottle of wine, sit on the patio, and draw all over the tables with crayons), Rossino’s, and Dëuffs all serve finger foods at cheap prices (under $10 for any entrée). The Grand area, closer to Saint Louis University, also has some cool places to go and eat. The Jade Room and Pho Grand are located there, and they are great places to take a date. And the Clayton area just west of Wash U has some good restaurants and bars, too, like Killkenny’s Pub and Portabella. Then, the Hill is famous for Italian food eateries, and the Soulard area has made St. Louis Mardi Gras the second largest celebration in the country. |

Wash U is right by the University...
Wash U is right by the University City Loop, which is a small shopping district on a street called Delmar. It’s a street known for its history. There are no clubs or anything like that, but there are many good restaurants and boutiques. Blueberry Hill is one of the best bar-and-grilles in the country, and Wash U students have it at their fingertips. They bring in great live music, and have for decades; it’s a great place to go on Thursday nights for a beer and giant burger. You’ll always run into someone you know there. Fitz’s, Thai Country Cafe, Cicero’s, Brandt’s, and Riddle’s are also all on Delmar. These are great places to go grab a quick bite and sit on the patio. There are lots of Wash U kids everywhere. |

There’s almost every type of food...
There’s almost every type of food in St. Louis, with the exception of many good sushi or Chinese food places. However, there’s really good Italian, Thai, and eclectic American restaurants all within walking- or driving-distance. Some of the best places I’ve found are Crazy Bowls & Wraps, St. Louis Bread Co. (those two are reasonably priced), Brandt’s, Crazyfish, Wild Flower, Zoë, Thai Country Cafe, Cunetto’s, and Portabella. |

St Louis has lots of ethnic...
St Louis has lots of ethnic restaurants. In Clayton (right near Wash U), there are many restaurants with good food that students can afford. St. Louis also has a lot of Italian restaurants in the Hill, the Italian section of the city. |

My favorite off-campus restaurants...
My favorite off-campus restaurants are: Café Natasha, which is quite pricey; Thai Country Café, which is definitely affordable; and Harvest, which is very expensive. Harvest is totally a place your parents can take you when they come to visit. There are tons of other restaurants around campus that are also worth eating at. |

Did You Know? The Anheuser-Busch brewing company (maker of Budweiser, Busch, and Bud Light), which is based in St. Louis, offers daily tours of its historic brewery, complete with beer tasting, for visitors 21-and-over. Anheuser-Busch is also a proud sponsor of Wash U, and the main law school building is named Anheuser-Busch Hall. Let’s just hope that these future attorneys don’t drink on the job.
